The school year is over. I turned in my final grades yesterday, and so now I am just waiting for the graduation on the 19th. I came into the school with almost all of the kids not knowing any English. For the senior class, it seemed impossible to teach them due to where they were at. They were no where close to where they should have been due to their books. But we persevered, and they learned.
It is always humorous to see how some of them write. They know how to speak it, but when they write it, they just try to sound it out the best they can.... Here´s some examples from one of my students:
Mexico ir werijuf. (Mexico is very good.)
Wat abouted pizza. (What about the pizza?)
The kids at Timothy House are learning English as well. We´re to the point to where they are starting to learn pronouns and verbs. This is harder to learn, but hopefully they will all start to catch on more. The ones that really want to learn are, but there are some others that are just trying to go through their work quickly. Yet, they are all learning quite a bit.
I think one of the most beautiful things about kids that Jesus loves so much and that He wants us to all be like is their honesty. Yes, kids do lie at times, but at other times, they are brutally honest. Last Sunday, the neighbor boy told me that I had a moustache and asked me why I didn´t shave it or wax it off. One of the other younger boys confirmed it and I just laughed. I have been looking in the mirror looking for it, and I don´t see a serious issue, but if you do - please tell me.
Also, the other night when we went to the park, I got a bruise on my knee from going down the firefighter pole. One of the boys didn´t believe me that it was a bruise and he kept insisting that I painted my knee. The bruise is finally going away now (it´s been a week), but it´s so funny that he wouldn´t believe me. I tried explaining to him how sometimes bruises look different on white people than Mexicans. Yet, he just wasn´t going to buy it.
Kids are cute and fun.
