Northern Ireland? What can I say about Northern Ireland?
Too much! There are so many things that impressed me, tugged on my heart, made me fall in love with the NORTHERN Irish, and just killed me inside.
I was impressed by the integrity and prayer lives of the N.I. Christians. I was impressed with the unity of the churches in different denominations ~ in Killyleagh, 2 presbyterian churches share a congregation in the summer so the pastors can have breaks, and all the churches come together to have a vacation bible school/ kids club.....
My heart was tugged by the many children and youth that touched me... how a little boy named Kieran just wanted all of his friends to become Christians like him, how the "hardest" teen in town named Buster said he would want to become a Christian later in his life, how 12 year olds have already lost their virginity and have 3 piercings, and how a little boy named Sam knows more about the Bible and how to live life like a Christian than half the people I know....
I couldn't help but fall in love with the Northern Irish because of their hospitality, generousity, love for one another, sense of humor, their wit, their beauty, their accents, and most of all their impact on Michelle, me, and the other youth.
My heart broke when I saw signs saying "Ready for War" against the catholics, the division between the people, when I heard that the protestants don't want people to share the gospel in the catholic schools, and when I realized that all the Ulster flags are more out of hatred than love.
Going there was an incredible experience, one I will never forget, and something that has changed me as a person, given me more perspective on people and the world, and that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
